“Off Duty”
My father served in the Indian Army, so I grew up in a military environment, and around horses. The horses represented in these paintings are part of the Indian Army. They participate in dressage, show jumping, and polo matches internationally. My brother has followed in my father’s footsteps; he commands an army regiment, the only one in the world that is on horse-back.
I remain passionate about horses. They are elegant, noble, disciplined, majestic, strong, and exotic. Whenever I return to India, I visit their stables to see them practicing and relaxing. The photographs I take there are the basis for these paintings. In this series, I am trying to present the animals in a less conventional way.
